Play-Based Learning

PCD EI offers Toddler and Parent/Child Playgroups in both our Lawrence and Andover locations.

EI Assistant Director, Lesley Siciliano shared… “Playgroups have been even more important and beneficial in the last 4 years. Children growing up in this post-COVID environment may have lost out on experiences with group and peer interactions.” Some young children have been isolated and rarely separated from their caregivers. Playgroups give children and families the opportunity for play-based learning and skill building possibilities.

Groups are staffed by EI Specialists – including nurses, developmental specialists, family workers, OT, PT, Speech Therapists and more. The groups are designed for EI children who could benefit from a group experience. Our Early Intervention Toddler Playgroups provide children developmental enrichment, social skills, and practice in separation from caregivers. Parent/Child groups offer opportunities for parents to learn new skills, gain confidence, and make connections with other parents.

  • Toddler Playgroups – PCD currently offers 10 groups for EI children that are integrated with community peers. During groups children gain skills and confidence with free play, outdoor experiences, snack time, circle with music and movement, gross & fine motor opportunities.
  • Parent/Child groups – PCD is happy to provide 6 groups for parents and children to experience together. During these staff guided groups parents and caregivers listen and learn from each other as their children work on developmental play. These groups are a steppingstone to transition to PCD Toddler Playgroups. Families bring home ideas and activities to enrich development.

“A great way for parents of EI children to meet talk about successes, challenges, and share activities or play ideas to build into their everyday routines.”
