Amelia is Reaching her Developmental Goals, with our Family-Centered Approach

Early Intervention and Amelia

Each family is the expert on their own child. Partners in Child Development understands that family-centered practices can profoundly improve a child’s developmental outcomes. Parents or caregivers often reach out to one of our Early Intervention Programs serving the Greater Lawrence and Greater Lowell areas of Massachusetts as they notice their child is not reaching developmental milestones or they have a diagnosis that could delay reaching age-appropriate milestones.

Amelia’s family, from Methuen, MA, contacted Early Intervention Services to discuss services for their daughter, a smart and beautiful little girl who has Down syndrome. Amelia’s mother, Colette, shared, “When I found out Amelia’s diagnosis, all I wanted was to find ways to help her. This team of professionals who come to my home, help my daughter, and provide us advice has been a blessing.”

Collaboration between the family and our Early Intervention professionals can help in many ways.

  • Assisting a family to identify concerns.
  • Discussing goals that are important to the family.
  • Identifying ways to strengthen skills and achieve outcomes.
  • Implementing strategies to work toward reaching developmental goals.
Early Intervention and Amelia

Colette described the services from Early Intervention, “The support and care that Amelia has received over the last couple years has been amazing. Amelia was struggling with her neck muscles at 6 months old. Although I would put her on her belly, it wasn’t until her physical therapist from Partners in Child Development’s Early Intervention Services told me to put my hand on her butt, to help her lift her neck that she began to get stronger. It has been small details like these that have helped with her overall development.”

Early Intervention and Amelia

Like every child, Amelia is growing and developing at her own pace. The professionals from Early Intervention Services provide consistency as they work with a child and their family identifying ways to support the family and their daily routines, respecting the family’s lifestyle, culture, and values.
